Writing Group Meeting #2 - 1/31/08

Today we again met in the room with the comfy chairs by room C. We did the assignment more or less as described, although we chose to read our pieces aloud before we did the pointing and helped find the Centers of Gravity. We then discussed a bit of our ideas behind our writing and why we chose to write what we did and what we were focusing on when we wrote the piece. As a group we felt it was difficult not to give any constructive criticism to help the writer improve their piece. - especially since last meeting we had each mentioned what we would like to work on. We also helped Christina choose a possible topic for her writing. After discussing what she enjoyed to read she concluded that she might want to focus on more reflective pieces or a piece similar in style to "The Power of Sprinkles" we read in class.
Next meeting we hope to be able to go more in depth about each piece we bring in and also receive some time to give constructive criticism and overall impressions of the piece.

Nice report, Tal, thanks. I wonder why your group was particularly challenged by the absence of "criticism." Is it because it's what you are used to, a force of habit? While I don't discount the usefulness of critique, it is important to me that over the course of this semester you practice greater autonomy in your writing. Try to find a balance between what YOU think and what others think about your work, which right now may entail practicing the somewhat awkward habits of listening to your own feedback first!

Hey Gatos,
Your post for meeting #3 is late. Please be sure to update your blog before class on Friday.
Thank you,
